Hydro blasting for surface preparation
Hydro blasting, also called hydroblasting or water blasting, uses high pressure waterjets to remove coatings, rust and industrial deposits from surfaces. Is hydro blasting the same as hydro jetting or hydro demolition?
These names overlap, so specify the job as well as the method. Dezu uses hydro blasting for surface cleaning and preparation, hydro jetting for pipe and drainage cleaning, and hydro demolition for concrete removal. Compare the applications and scope inputs.

How does hydro blasting work?
A pump supplies water to a lance or surface-cleaning tool. The waterjets act on coatings, corrosion products or deposits to separate them from the surface. High pressure or ultra high pressure equipment is selected for the material, access and required finish. Pressure alone does not define a suitable method or accepted result.
What is hydro blasting and how does it compare to sandblasting?
Water-only blasting removes coatings and contamination without introducing blasting abrasive. It can expose an existing steel profile but does not create a new one. Removed coating, debris and water still require containment and handling. Select the method and acceptance checks with the coating specification and responsible inspector.
What surfaces has Dezu prepared by hydro blasting?
Ship decks and hulls, storage tanks, plant steel, and process equipment. In 2022 Dezu removed anti-skid (ASA) coating from the decks of USNS Big Horn and USNS Yukon, two US Navy vessels. Dezu also runs recurring water blasting campaigns across a gold processing facility, from process lines to tanks.
Can hydro blasting run inside an operating plant?
It can be considered after a site review of isolation, nearby work, access, permits and containment. Dezu has delivered work inside operating facilities and on public infrastructure. Containment is one part of the agreed work controls; it does not by itself establish that an operating area is suitable.
Which hydro blasting applications need different checks?
The next stage determines the required surface condition. Agree the coating or deposit to remove, what must remain and how the prepared surface will be accepted.

What equipment and information does a hydro blasting quotation need?
Send the asset location, photos, area, coating or deposit, required finish and work window. Access, isolation, water supply, containment and waste handling affect the scope.
