Why is a heat exchanger still underperforming after cleaning?
Poor performance after cleaning does not by itself prove that cleaning failed. Review the operating conditions, the side and area actually cleaned, the acceptance record and other possible equipment problems. APR can add evidence about internal tube geometry in a suitable application; it does not diagnose every cause of low duty or certify thermal recovery.
What should you check before ordering another clean?
Compare the observed problem with the original cleaning scope and acceptance criteria. Establish whether the work covered tube interiors, the outside of the bundle, another flow path or only accessible areas. Review the tube map, exclusions, remaining deposits and accepted exceptions.
Ask the responsible plant team to compare relevant operating conditions with a valid baseline. A changed load or fluid condition can change the result. Keep “cleaning completed”, “cleaning accepted” and “performance restored” as separate statements supported by their own evidence.

Which question does each piece of evidence answer?
A useful investigation matches the question to the evidence, rather than selecting the same test for every symptom.

Why can flow and light checks leave questions unanswered?
Each test has a defined scope. A flow result shows that fluid passed under the recorded test conditions. A light or visual check depends on visibility and geometry. Neither automatically establishes the full internal condition, absence of residual deposits or metal integrity.
When acceptance is disputed, agree what must be established and whether additional evidence will change the decision. APR may help investigate detectable internal restrictions, subject to preparation and examination limits; it should not be sold as a universal replacement for other checks.
Could the remaining problem be outside the cleaned tubes?
Yes. Tube-side cleaning does not establish the condition of shell-side surfaces or other flow paths. The plant team may need to review distribution, bypass, operating conditions and other equipment issues. The appropriate investigation depends on the exchanger design and observed behaviour.
An APR examination is limited to the suitable tube interiors actually examined. It does not survey the entire exchanger or prove that another cleaning pass will restore output.
When is a repeat clean worth considering?
Consider additional cleaning when the records and examination identify a relevant remaining deposit that can be addressed within an agreed method and access plan. Define the target, limits and acceptance check before repeating work.
If the evidence points to an unexamined side, an operating issue or a damage mechanism, route that question to the appropriate owner or specialist. Repeating the same cleaning without a defined unresolved target may not answer it.
How can APR support a cleaning-validation plan?
For a suitable application, agree the tube map and examination objective, record the initial findings, clean the agreed positions and repeat the required examinations. Retain the coverage record, data-quality limitations, residual indications and owner’s acceptance decision.
Where integrity inspection is also required, its preparation, technique and coverage are selected separately. Deposits may obscure metal-loss indications; a cleaning-validation screen must not silently become a complete integrity assessment.

What should maintenance and procurement request in the handover?
Request a scope-to-result record: asset and tube identification, areas actually treated, checks performed, test conditions where relevant, findings, inaccessible positions, accepted exceptions and unresolved actions. Identify the cleaning contractor, inspection/reporting responsibility and the owner’s acceptance authority.
This gives procurement a comparable deliverable and gives maintenance a record it can use at the next shutdown. It also prevents an equipment reading or a completion certificate from being described as a result it does not demonstrate.

Does high pressure drop mean the tubes are still blocked?
It can be a reason to investigate, but it is not a diagnosis. Review operating conditions, the measured flow path and the asset design. Confirm whether internal restrictions are the relevant question before choosing APR or another examination.
Does a clean-looking tube prove the exchanger will meet its duty?
No. Appearance, cleaning acceptance, tube condition and thermal performance are different questions. Use the appropriate recorded evidence for each.
Can APRIS guarantee that another cleaning pass is unnecessary?
No. APR provides information within the examined tube’s method and coverage limits. The owner decides the next action using the relevant cleaning, inspection and operating evidence.
